Iran, Poland, and South Korea are increasingly pursuing nuclear weapons latency, driving a global resurgence of the nuclear threshold phenomenon that challenges traditional nonproliferation frameworks. This shift allows states to accumulate technical capabilities, such as enriching uranium or reprocessing plutonium, to remain steps away from assembly without triggering immediate military or diplomatic retaliation.

Historically, countries like India and Israel successfully navigated this ambiguous status during the late twentieth century to balance deterrence against geopolitical isolation. Today, the global expansion of civilian nuclear energy and access to dual-use technologies provide cheaper pathways to latency, complicating efforts by the International Atomic Energy Agency to distinguish peaceful programs from weapons development. Consequently, international policymakers must adapt intelligence and diplomatic toolkits to address these ambiguous postures, particularly as security guarantees weaken and regional escalation risks rise in the aftermath of the United States and Israeli 'Epic Fury' war with Iran.
