Space Force Wants 5 New Tactical Ops Centers for Electronic Warfare

Air & Space Forces Magazine  |  Todd South

The Space Force aims to enhance its electronic warfare capabilities by establishing five new tactical EW centers across the U.S. and globally, a critical need underscored by recent Iranian attacks on USSF infrastructure and assets during Operation Epic Fury. Brig. Gen. Christopher Fernengel reported that space capabilities were targeted and destroyed for the first time, with adversaries increasingly using kinetic and cyber weapons against Space Force systems.

The 2027 budget request includes $1 billion for four new space operations centers and a classified, significant investment for these five EW centers. Currently, only one SEWTOC, run by Mission Delta 3, operates at Peterson Space Force Base. These new centers will provide resilience by dispersing capabilities, operating offensively or defensively to protect satellite communications and disrupt enemy signals, which retired Col. Charles Galbreath identifies as the "primary means" of achieving space superiority. Key systems include the Remote Modular Terminal (RMT) and Bounty Hunter, with Meadowlands (L3Harris) replacing the Counter Communications System, offering enhanced remote operation and flexibility.
