Cybersecurity leaders from major U.S. firms, including Nvidia and Adobe, have urged the Trump administration to lift restrictions on Anthropic's powerful AI models, arguing that current bans hinder efforts to prevent digital attacks. This appeal follows Washington's Friday order for Anthropic to suspend foreign national access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models due to national security concerns.
Anthropic had previously warned about Mythos's hacking capabilities but released a public version, Fable, with cybersecurity safeguards. The security leaders' letter, signed by over 50 experts, states that these curbs limit the industry's ability to fix software flaws while other AI tools facilitate hacker exploits. They contend Anthropic's models are not uniquely capable of finding security flaws, noting rivals like China's Kimi 2.7 offer similar abilities. Anthropic staff are scheduled to meet with the U.S. Department of Commerce, disputing government beliefs about "jailbreaking" Fable's safeguards. The letter warns that pulling U.S. capabilities could be "dangerous" as China's open-source models are rapidly advancing.
