Trump the unreliable narrator fails to force reality to match his story on Iran

The Guardian  |  Andrew Roth

The US-Iran war continues with President Donald Trump acting as an "unreliable narrator," repeatedly threatening Iran and claiming a peace deal is "close" without tangible results. Trump has asserted "complete victory" in the conflict, yet the Strait of Hormuz remains closed to over 20% of global oil traffic.

His declarations contradict events, such as an Iranian drone downing a US Apache helicopter off Oman, despite prior claims by Trump and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth that Iran lacked anti-aircraft capabilities. Iran persists with missile and drone attacks against US allies in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. In response, the US struck over 20 Iranian targets, including radar and anti-aircraft sites. Trump maintains a contradictory stance, threatening further strikes while simultaneously stating a deal is "within reach," which has increasingly eroded trust in his public statements.
