Is the US really running out of weapons under Trump?

The United States military has significantly depleted its critical munitions stockpiles following forty days of intense combat operations against Iran during Operation Epic Fury. This rapid expenditure of over 1,000 Tomahawk land attack missiles and 1,430 Patriot interceptors has forced the Trump administration to pause airstrikes to allow negotiations and preserve remaining reserves.

The underlying strain stems from a severely constrained domestic defense industrial base that requires up to five years to manufacture and deliver a single replacement missile. Pentagon officials warn that these shortfalls create a critical window of vulnerability in the Indo-Pacific, potentially leaving American forces unprepared for a conflict with China over Taiwan. While some analysts argue this combat deployment successfully demonstrated American deterrence, European allies like Ukraine face immediate resource competition for vital air defense platforms. Consequently, the White House is urging defense contractors to accelerate domestic production while exploring cheaper, mass-produced counter-drone alternatives to offset high interceptor costs.
