Houthis attack Israel and announce ban on Israeli vessels in the Red Sea

On June 8, Yemen’s Houthis fired missiles at central Israel as the Jewish state and Iran exchanged fire for the first time since the April 7 ceasefire between the US, Israel, and Iran. The Houthis launched two missiles, one intercepted and one falling short, targeting the Tel Aviv area.

Simultaneously, Iran fired multiple missile barrages at Israel in response to an Israeli strike against Hezbollah in Beirut’s Dahiyeh on June 7. Following the attack, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced a “complete and total ban on maritime navigation on the Israeli enemy in the Red Sea,” declaring all enemy movements military targets. This move follows an earlier threat by IRGC-QF Commander Esmail Qaani to close the Bab al Maneb Strait. Saree framed the actions as confronting “American-Zionist aggression” and rejecting the “Greater Israel” project, aligning with the “jihad and resistance axis” and seeking to break the US blockade on Iranian shipping. Houthi leader Abdulmalik al Houthi reiterated the group's “full coordination” with the Axis of Resistance.
