Iran Declares End To Strikes On Israel In Credibility Operation – Analysis

Eurasia Review  |  Kian Sharifi

Iran’s military central command announced a halt to its strikes against Israel on June 8, declaring a “painful response” to Israeli strikes on Beirut’s Dahiyeh district. This move, framed as a completed operation with conditions, aimed to preserve Iran's credibility after publicly threatening retaliation for attacks on its Lebanese ally.

Analysts like Mohammad Ghaedi and Mehrdad Khansari viewed this as a “credibility operation” to avoid an all-out war while demonstrating capability and resolve. The announcement followed US President Donald Trump's Truth Social post suggesting both sides sought an immediate cease-fire and that US-Iran peace deal negotiations were progressing, with a US blockade of Iranian ports remaining. Iran's statement, while appearing as restraint, simultaneously raised the ceiling for future retaliation, warning of “far more intense and crushing” responses if Israeli aggression continues. Israeli Prime Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed “fire is on hold” but warned of “full force” response if Iran resumes attacks, despite Trump asserting he “calls the shots” on any US-Iran deal.
