Donald Trump is actively working to end the catastrophic four-month war on Iran, which he initiated with Benjamin Netanyahu, by offering Tehran's military regime a $300bn rebuilding fund, an end to economic sanctions, and a promise of non-interference in its internal affairs. This move signals a US readiness to accept defeat in a potentially "forever war," preventing it from escalating like Vietnam, Afghanistan, or Iraq.
Trump has also expressed frustration with Netanyahu's "ceaseless bombing of Lebanon," questioning the targeting of civilians. Despite this, US and Israeli forces have killed over 3,300 Iranians, including more than 100 children. The war, driven by a desire to display power and triggered by Netanyahu, was based on a thin justification regarding Iran's nuclear potential, echoing the 2003 Iraq invasion. The author suggests the best outcome is ending sanctions and opening Iran to outside commerce, believing this will dilute the regime's grip and counter its alignment with Russia and China, rather than continued bombing, which is deemed ineffective and akin to state terror.
