Military operations in Ukraine and Iran demonstrate that defensive military capabilities increasingly outweigh offensive firepower, reviving defense-dominant theory in contemporary international relations. Precision-guided munitions, integrated air defense networks, and dense anti-access deployment have dramatically raised the economic and operational costs of cross-border territorial aggression. This technological revolution grounds modern conflict in a structural reality where entrenched defending forces hold persistent tactical advantages over invading land and air assets.

Consequently, major powers attempting rapid force projection encounter severe attrition, logistics strain, and tactical stagnation. Defense dominates offense. As offensive armored maneuvers stall against cheap uncrewed aerial systems and distributed surveillance, state militaries are forced to adapt toward long-range attrition and perimeter fortification. The broad strategic consequence is a fundamental realignment of global deterrence postures, where cost-imposition strategies and anti-access umbrellas supersede rapid conquest, ensuring prolonged, static theater stalemates across emerging regional flashpoints.
