Winning the AI Race

Chronicles Magazine  |  Colin Redemer

The United States must win the artificial intelligence race against China to prevent the People's Liberation Army from achieving global dominance and seizing critical semiconductor foundries in Taiwan by 2027. This geopolitical contest carries severe national security stakes, as Chinese cyberespionage networks like Volt Typhoon have already infiltrated American critical infrastructure to prepare for potential sabotage.

Beijing's strategy of military-civil fusion integrates commercial giants like Baidu and Huawei directly into state warfare planning, eliminating any distinction between civilian and military technologies. However, domestic victory requires preserving American identity against the dual threats of a copycat surveillance state and the partisan encoding of progressive biases during model alignment. To safeguard the national soul and ensure automation benefits accrue to domestic citizens, policymakers must reject technocratic censorship. Ultimately, the nation must foster a competitive, lightly regulated market that outpaces foreign adversaries while anchoring these tools to traditional constitutional principles.
