Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced on June 30 a partnership with defense contractor Anduril, designating it a "preferred edge provider" for national security. This collaboration aims to deliver high-capacity computing and AI for targeting and sensor fusion via Anduril's Menace-I mobile data centers, designed for austere tactical environments.
These centers, utilizing AWS Outpost technology, significantly reduce mission programming time for aircraft like the F-35 Lightning II from two days with eight operators to two hours with two. This localized processing capability mitigates latency inherent in distant data centers, crucial for real-time military precision. Menace-I, available in Core, Command, and Enhanced variants with up to 168 servers, has accumulated over 50,000 hours of rugged field use, including Operation Epic Fury against Iran. The Marine Corps validated Menace for sling load movement with the CH-53K King Stallion in August 2025, enabling mission planning support for fifth-generation aircraft.
