Taiwan's government launched a website on Sunday, June 14, to encourage Chinese nationals to report intelligence tips, offering a secure channel for those "fed up with the system and want change." This initiative comes as Taiwan reports an increased number of Chinese espionage cases, reflecting long-standing mutual spying.
Taiwan's National Security Bureau noted China's growing economic difficulties and tight political control, which, coupled with social problems, have fueled public discontent and led more individuals to approach Taiwan with information. The website features an AI-generated promotional video showing a Chinese civil servant witnessing colleagues being investigated and removed, ending with a call to action. Taiwan's bureau encourages Chinese nationals globally to "actively provide information," mirroring tactics used by the U.S., Britain, and Israel. China itself launched a similar system in 2024 for reporting Taiwan "separatists," while Taiwan rejects Beijing's sovereignty claims.
