IAI presents an Impressive Array of Technologies

18 Feb , 2015

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) will display a variety of cutting-edge defense solutions at the Aero India air show, to be held in Bangalore, India. IAI, Israel’s largest aerospace company, places an important emphasis on fully-operational solutions for multi-purpose use in the air, on land, at sea, in space and in the cyber arena. The company will present special mission aircraft, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), a variety of sensors and radar systems, air defense systems, satellites and advanced cyber solutions, missiles, command and control solutions and electro-optical payloads for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

IAI is acting to expand collaboration with both government-owned and private companies in India.

Models of IAI’s TECSAR and OPSAT satellites will be presented, as along with mini-UAS such as Panther and Bird-Eye. IAI’s Heron family of UAS will be displayed, as well as the M-19 HD multi-sensor payload, the HAROP loitering munitions system.

“IAI offers a line of systems and sub-systems characterized by breakthrough technologies”, said Joseph Weiss, IAI’s president and CEO.”As a global leader in cutting-edge systems such as mission aircraft, UAS, air defense systems, space technologies and cyber security, we combine multiple disciplines and expertise in many technological areas into total solutions. IAI is acting to expand collaboration with both government-owned and private companies in India. This mode of work is contributing significantly to the strong relationship between both sides.”

IAI’s Heron: The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) of the Republic of Korea has today announced its selection of Israel Aerospace Industries’ (IAI) Heron Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) for the corps-level UAV upgrade project.

DAPA’s official notification said: “We comprehensively evaluated price, capability, operational suitability, T&C and selected the equipment that has a higher score.”

IAI said: “We appreciate DAPA and the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) for selecting IAI, via a thorough evaluation process which set a high level of requirements, allowing the Heron to demonstrate its outstanding performance, innovative features, mission versatility and proven, advanced operational capabilities”.

IAI’s M-19HD : Israel Aerospace Industries’ M-19HD payload has successfully completed all airborne test-flights on manned and unmanned platforms. Local and international customers have shown interest in the novel electro-optical payload and advanced negotiations are underway.

The M-19HD is a true High-Definition, compact, multispectral, multi-sensor,single line-replacement unit (LRU) payload (simultaneously incorporating up to 7 sensors). The M-19HD enables continuous day/night surveillance under all weather conditions and provides outstanding acquisition ranges due to its powerful sensors, high stabilization and unique image processing capabilities.

The system is designed to be installed onboard advanced unmanned aerial platforms such as IAI’s Heron-1 and Heron TP UAVs, as well as aerostats and manned platforms, able to perform strategic missions.

Shlomo Gold, Acting General Manager of IAI’s Tamam Division: “The M-19HD payload is the ideal system for long-endurance ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) missions and area dominance. The M-19HD provides powerful sensors, high stabilization and unique image processing features, together with long range persistent surveillance capabilities. The M-19HD follows IAI’s tradition of innovation and offers our customers high performance and a cost-effective solution.”

The system is designed to be installed onboard advanced unmanned aerial platforms such as IAI’s Heron-1 and Heron TP UAVs, as well as aerostats and manned platforms, able to perform strategic missions.

IAI Marks Delivery of the 1000th EHUD AACMI Pod: Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has marked delivery of its 1000th EHUD AACMI pod, an advanced Autonomous Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation Training (AACMI) System.

The EHUD AACMI system is a technology enabler for LVC (Live Virtual Constructive) training, and provides a significant advance in the performance of modern joint training capabilities for air, ground and naval forces. The use of on-board systems enhances the effectiveness of live training, reduces expenses and helps increase operator familiarity with the systems.

…Indian Air Force is one of the leading air forces using the AACMI system.

IAI will present a model of the EHUD derivative, HTS, a Helicopter Training & Safety System, intended for attack helicopters. It enriches live helicopter training by offering high-value embedded pilot training with maximized safety features.

IAI has developed a unique R-73 AACMI derivative, which has been integrated into various fighter aircraft in the Indian Air Force. Today, the Indian Air Force is one of the leading air forces using the AACMI system. The IAI AACMI R-73 configuration is the only AACMI pod available in an R-73 missile enclosure.

Yoav Tourgeman, IAI/MLM Division’s General Manager said: “Delivering the 1000th EHUD system to our customer marks the unprecedented importance of this advanced product and reflects a high degree of customer satisfaction, more than 20 years since its initial introduction.”

Barak-8 Air & Missile Defense System : Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), in collaboration with the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD), conducted a successful test of the Barak-8 Air and Missile Defense System towards the end of 2014. The test validated all components of the weapons system to the satisfaction of the customer’s representatives.

Barak-8 is an advanced air and missile defense system which provides ultimate protection against a variety of airborne threats, for both land and naval scenarios. It was designed jointly with the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) in India and is in use with both the Israel Defense Force (IDF) and the Indian defense forces. The system includes an advanced phased array digital radar, command and control, vertical launchers and missiles carrying a highly-advanced seeker.

Barak-8 is regarded as a complex and significant program by the IMOD and is led by IAI, as prime contractor, in collaboration with IMOD’s Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D), ELTA Systems Ltd.- IAI’s group and subsidiary, RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems, and other defense industries.

Joseph Weiss, IAI’s President and CEO, said:”Barak-8 System is the most advanced of its kind, reflecting IAI’s resilience, advanced and groundbreaking capabilities. The most recent test was very successful and marked a significant milestone in the development of the system and its becoming operational. Barak-8 can meet a variety of challenges, and provides the ultimate protection against a broad range of threats in complex scenarios, under all weather conditions. We see the Barak-8 Air and Missile Defense System as a major growth-engine for the company in the coming years.”

Dr. Avinash Chander, former Head of DRDO and Scientific Adviser to the Indian defense minister, said after the successful test: “This is an important milestone in the cooperation between India and Israel and in the development of the Barak-8 Advanced Air Defense System.”

Rear Admiral (Res.) Ophir Shoham, head of the Defense Research and Development directorate in the IMOD: “The Barak-8 project is an expression of the constructive cooperation between the Indian DRDO, Israel’s DDR&D and both countries’ Defense Forces; together they have pushed forward in this important program, overcoming technological challenges and making achievements along the way.”
