At Aero India 2015, RAFAEL is presenting a wide range of combat proven systems, among them complete Aerial and Air Defense Systems, precise Tactical Missiles, standoff Precision Guided Munition (PGM), Electro Optic and Communication Systems and Multi-Purpose, Tactical Guided Missile Systems.

The Spike Family

Multi-purpose, Multi-Platform Electro-Optic Missile System with real time data link. The Spike Missile Family consists of precise Tactical Missiles for ranges between 200 – 25000 m.

The Iron Dome is used for missile defense against short range artillery rockets, shells and mortars and the David’s Sling, produced and developed together with Raytheon, will be used against medium and long range rockets, short range ballistic missiles and cruise missiles.

The Spike Missiles are in use by infantry units as well as mounted on combat vehicles, attack helicopters and naval vessels. The Spike missiles are combat proven and in service in many countries including: Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Poland and others. The missiles in this family have sophisticated electro-optic CCD or IIR sensors for day/night all-weather operation, as well as a tandem warhead. Their lofted trajectories enable the warhead to strike the target at its most vulnerable location with pinpoint precision. All of the SPIKE Family members have a low life-cycle cost, due to high reliability and operational and logistic support and production commonality between members.

Air Defense and Air To Air Systems

Air Defense

Rafael’s Air Defense system of systems provides a complete solution ensuring tactical overmatch against a broad spectrum of air and missile threats. The solution is based on a multi-layered concept that has been designed to provide optimum protection against all current and future airborne threats.

The layered concept consists of two separate double-tiered systems that cope effectively with many different types of threats. These separate systems are modular, yet provide maximum interoperability and connectivity.

The new Iron Dome and David’s Sling missile defense systems provide a comprehensive double-tiered solution. The Iron Dome is used for missile defense against short range artillery rockets, shells and mortars and the David’s Sling, produced and developed together with Raytheon, will be used against medium and long range rockets, short range ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. Both systems have been selected by the Israeli Ministry of Defense as part of a comprehensive Israel air defense solution.

The Iron Dome system is already operational by the Israeli Air Force. In April 2011 the Iron Dome system successfully intercepted rockets launched towards Israel. It has sionce than achieved more than 1700 operational interceptions at a rate of approximately 90%.

The other double-tiered solution offered by Rafael is the SPYDER family of air defense systems. The SPYDER-SR is a slant-launched SHORAD system and the SPYDER-MR is a vertically launched MRAD system. The SPYDER-SR system is combat proven.

Rafael provides, as part of the comprehensive air and missile defense solution, the MIC4AD – Modular Integrated C4I Air Defense, an advanced unified Integrated C4I system that commands and controls the operation of both air and missile defense missions

All of Rafael’s Air and Missile defense systems enable full interoperability as well as integration capability with other components (Missiles, C4I, Radars and more). For the first time in India, we are presenting C-DOME – a Naval Point Defense System designed to effectively protect combat vessels against a large set of modern threats. C-Dome handles saturation attacks by engaging multiple targets simultaneously. Reaction time is very short and enables automatic and semi-automatic engagements.

Air-to-Air

The Python-5 is a fifth generation air-to-air missile that provides the pilot engaging an enemy aircraft with a full sphere launch capability. The missile can be launched from very short to beyond-visual ranges with greater kill probability, excellent resistance to countermeasures, irrespective of evasive target manoeuvres or deployment of countermeasures.


The Derby is an active radar air-to-air missile that provides fighter aircraft with outstanding and effective performance in both short ranges and Beyond Visual Range (BVR) intercepts.

The missile enables operational flexibility and multi-shot capability. It can be launched at an enemy aircraft day or night and in all-weather conditions.

Additional Derby capabilities include look-down/shoot-down, sophisticated fire-and-forget mode and an advanced ECCM tailored to the customer’s operational requirements. Derby’s light weight allows it to be adapted to various modern fighter aircraft, including light aircraft, such as the F-5, Mirage and F-16.

SPICE Family

Smart, Precise Impact and Cost-Effective Guidance Kit is a family of stand-off, autonomous, air-to-ground weapon systems, capable of hitting and destroying targets with pinpoint accuracy and at high attack volumes. SPICE is combat-proven and in service with the Israeli Air Force and several international customers. SPICE uses state-of-the art navigation, guidance and homing techniques to achieve the accurate and effective destruction of targets with a CEP of better than 3 meters.

SPICE-250

SPICE-250 is the latest addition to the SPICE family and we are presenting it here for the first time . It is a new generation stand-off Precision Guided Munition (PGM). SPICE-250 has a standoff range of 100 kilometers. The SPICE-250 is an autonomous weapon with real time target position update capability.

SPICE-250 is a unitary munition and can be equipped with either general purpose or penetration warheads. Aircraft increased load-out and wide target set provide the optimal solution for high volume precise strike for the dynamic battlefield. An F-16 can carry up to 16 munitions, and an F-15 up to 28.

Electro Optic Systems

LITENING is a combat-proven multi-spectral airborne targeting and navigation pod. Designed for navigation and target illumination, LITENING significantly enhances day and night attack capabilities. Mounted externally to the aircraft, LITENING contains advanced forward looking infrared (FLIR) and charge coupled device (CCD) sensors. High-resolution images of the target are presented to the aircrew, with wide field of view search capability and precision acquisition and targeting. Unmatched sensor resolution enables aircrew to reliably detect and identify targets day and night, in all weather conditions. LITENING features a laser designator for precise delivery of laser-guided munitions, as well as a laser rangefinder and automatic target tracker. Targets can be struck with precision-guided weapons on a single pass, dramatically enhancing combat effectiveness while reducing collateral damage.

RecceLite is a day/night electro-optical tactical reconnaissance pod for real-time imagery collection and data transfer. Self-contained and self-cooled, the multi-sensor system is composed of an airborne payload, a wide digital data link and a ground exploitation station (GES). RecceLite is combat proven and in operation worldwide.

Broadband MANET IP Software Defined Radio (SDR)

BNet is a mobile Ad-Hoc Radio communications network for the transmission of reliable digital information at high data rates among a large number of users.

BNet is an integrated C3 system providing position and jam-resistant high-speed Data and Voice (Analogy and VoIP) used for combat communications in a modern battlefield. BNET is a Software Defined Radio with the capability to operate simultaneously in Dual Bands e.g., the UHF for Ground applications using the OFDM type of modulation and the L band using the QPSK modulation for Air applications.

BNet is designed to support full interoperability with standard IP equipment. The interoperability enables simple integration of multiple networks, allows benefiting from technological advances in general IP market and does not introduce excess complications at the network maintenance level.

BNet’s implementation of the above (requirements) includes an embedded IP router supporting interoperability with other standard IP routers.
