Australian Defence Force (ADF) establishes new SIGINT and Cyber Command

By Gabriel Dominguez

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has established a new Defence Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) and Cyber Command to enhance its cyber capabilities in what it described as a “more refined” command structure, according to a 30 January statement by the Department of Defence (DoD) in Canberra.

“From 29 January the new joint SIGINT unit and the recently established Joint Cyber Unit will operate under the Defence SIGINT and Cyber Command alongside civilian teams from the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD),” said the DoD.

“The Defence SIGINT and Cyber Command continues the longstanding tradition of ADF personnel working within ASD to ensure support to military operations remains the agency’s highest priority,” Chief of Defence Force Air Chief Marshal Binskin was quoted in the statement as saying.
