This Is How the Iran War Ends

The Free Press  |  Michael Doran

President Donald Trump has announced that an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is "largely negotiated," facing immediate criticism from both Republican and Democratic factions. Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican ally, expressed concern that such a deal could be perceived as an "ignominious retreat," making Iran a dominant force and creating a "nightmare for Israel."

Conversely, Democrat Senator Chris Van Hollen characterized the emerging framework as merely "a return to the prewar status quo," implying futility. The author contends that both adversaries and supporters misrepresent the strategic reality, with Democratic critics failing to acknowledge the war’s significant achievement in degrading Iran’s nuclear weapons program. David Albright, a nuclear proliferation expert, confirms Iran's timeline for developing a nuclear weapon has shifted from months to a much longer period with reduced success odds.
