Special ops leader says Maduro mission set ‘new standard’

BREAKINGDEFENSE | Andrew White
The U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) commander, Admiral Frank M.
Bradley, declared the January 3, 2026, operation to capture then-Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro a "new standard" for multi-layered joint operations and a glimpse into the future of special operations. This "Operation Absolute Resolve" was described as the "most sophisticated, integrated, interagency joint force raid ever conducted," involving over more than 150 aircraft from the Western Hemisphere converging on Caracas, with space, cyber, air force, and navy delivering layered effects for Delta Force and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment ground forces. Interagency partners provided critical intelligence, defining a new standard for power projection and synchronization through interwoven virtual and physical domain maneuver. Bradley emphasized the need for "exquisite and attritable effects" in future combat, noting a $5,000 first person-view (FPV) drone could surpass a $100,000 military-procured artillery round. He advocated for abundant, scalable attritable systems and "compounding sophistication" by integrating commercial sensors and attritable systems with kinetic strikes, electronic warfare, and digital intrusion to dismantle advanced defenses.
