The American and Israeli militaries have waged a full-scale war against the Islamic Republic of Iran over the last four months, resulting in the targeted assassination of much of the country's political and military leadership. This intense military campaign prompted immediate retaliation from Iran, which launched direct attacks against United States military bases, infrastructure in Gulf Arab states, and Israel.
With the bilateral relationship worse than ever before, the opposing sides still managed to strike a formal cease-fire deal in early April. Furthermore, in June, they signed a memorandum of understanding specifically designed to end the ongoing conflict. However, these diplomatic agreements have failed to secure a lasting peace, and both sides continue to exchange active military fire. Both adversaries remain deeply divided and far apart on key issues, leaving this deadlocked conflict unresolved as military engagements persist across the wider region.
