Anduril and Amazon’s mobile data center venture aims to bring edge computing to the frontlines

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Anduril are collaborating to deploy edge computing capabilities to the frontlines by combining AWS’s on-site cloud computers with Anduril’s mobile data center, Menace-I. This integration allows the containerized Menace-I, which can be set up by two people in under 10 minutes and transported by various means, to be outfitted with AWS Outpost.

The combined system aims to bring cloud computing closer to battlefield action, reducing data transfer times in combat for the U.S. military and other defense buyers. AWS has designated Anduril as its “preferred edge provider” for defense customers. Menace-I has already been used during Operation Epic Fury and deployed with the Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy, while AWS Outpost has been deployed in protected structures. This initiative addresses the need for distributed, fault-tolerant systems, making advanced cloud capabilities more accessible and cost-effective for commanders in real-world scenarios.
