China has surpassed Japan in robotics, particularly in humanoid robots, a significant development highlighted at last month’s Humanoids Summit in Tokyo. Chinese companies now dominate the global supply chain for these robots, producing essential parts at a scale and price point that competitors cannot match, leveraging their established electric vehicle industry.
At the Tokyo conference, Japanese companies, which historically led the field for decades, focused on strategies to find niches and compete against their increasingly dominant Chinese rivals. China's Unitree Robotics notably drew the largest crowds with its dancing robot, and two Japanese firms even utilized Unitree robots to showcase their own software. This shift underscores China's growing technological leadership in a critical sector, impacting global investment and the future of AI-driven robotics.
