Ukraine's military has intensified attacks near Russian-annexed Crimea, targeting maritime supply routes after striking land corridors. Ukraine's drone force commander, Robert Brovdi (Magyar), claims at least 25 ships were hit and set ablaze in the Sea of Azov between July 6 and 9, significantly impacting Russia's naval capability and fuel supply guarantees.
These strikes represent the latest phase of Ukraine's "logistics lockdown" aimed at severing supply lines into and out of occupied Crimea, building on prior attacks like the one on Kerch port last month. Russian officials confirmed two empty tankers were attacked in Taganrog Bay, with Brovdi detailing two tankers carrying 7,000 tons of fuel each to Crimea. Satellite imagery confirmed a large smoke plume from a ship off the Crimean coast, leading to approximately 20 vessels departing the area. The attacks, which included named tankers and a passenger ferry, coincide with ongoing strikes on Russian oil refineries, causing widespread fuel shortages, rationing in over 90% of Russian regions, and a diesel export ban. Russian pro-war sources criticized the Black Sea Fleet's inability to protect tankers, noting its retreat to Novorossiysk.
