Russian Battle Tank Attrition Completely Reversed - Top Western Analysts

A leading pro-Ukrainian analyst, Jompy, has concluded that Russia's current tank fleet is larger than its pre-war force due to new domestic production and refurbishment, despite a sharp drop in overall vehicle quality. Russian tank losses have significantly decreased from nearly 4 per day in 2022 to 1.4 per day in 2025, and reportedly 0.4 per day or less in 2026, with only 10 tanks destroyed in April 2026 according to WarSpotting.

Russia manufactures up to 250 T-90Ms annually, surpassing current loss rates, and is expanding refurbishment efforts to older T-72As, opening up a further thousand tank hulls. While Soviet-era T-72B reserves are exhausted, Russia is reconstituting a modernized tank force in the rear, potentially for future mobile warfare if drone saturation is overcome. The T-14 Armata program is effectively dead, with resources redirected to T-90M improvements, focusing on digitalization, AI integration, and anti-drone protection.
