China has constructed an elaborate test range in Xinjiang, featuring a full-size 3D mockup of a US Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, for anti-ship practice. This development comes despite Beijing's public outrage over Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) drills simulating an attack on China's Type 001 CNS Liaoning aircraft carrier.
The People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force (PLARF) is rehearsing strikes against US Navy vessels, with the 3D target optimized for validating anti-ship ballistic missiles like the DF-21D and DF-26, emerging hypersonic strike systems, and AI-assisted targeting. This indicates intensified anti-ship equipment tests aimed at countering and threatening US military presence in the First Island Chain. The sprawling Taklamakan Desert range also features 2D mock-ups of Nimitz-class and Gerald R. Ford-class carriers, with some targets reportedly on a rail system to simulate evasive maneuvers, highlighting China's double standard regarding military exercises.
