Russian forces launched a major drone and missile attack on Kyiv overnight into Thursday, killing at least 30 people and injuring 91, in what Mayor Vitaly Klitschko described as the "most massive attack" on the Ukrainian capital. This barrage deployed the largest number of weapons on Kyiv, hitting locations over a wide area, including a high-rise block of flats and an ambulance station.
Moscow claimed its forces targeted military plants in retaliation for attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure, while Ukraine accused Russia of targeting civilian areas. The attack lasted over 11 hours, involving multiple waves of drones, ballistic, and cruise missiles, creating a complex challenge for Ukraine's air defences. The Ukrainian Red Cross reported its warehouse was destroyed, losing over £1.3m in supplies. Ukraine urged allies for more air defence systems, with President Zelensky appealing for Patriot missile manufacturing licenses. Russia also struck military bases in central and eastern Ukraine, claiming to target defence and energy infrastructure.
