On May 21, UK Defense Secretary John Healey's Royal Air Force plane, a Dassault Falcon 900LX, experienced satellite signal jamming, likely by Russia, during his return flight from Estonia after visiting British troops. This incident underscores a persistent and rapidly growing global epidemic of GPS disruption, impacting signals crucial for safe air and sea travel.
While navigation interference has been a consistent issue across the Baltic Sea region, this subversive activity is now expanding swiftly into the Middle East, posing new challenges. During Healey's flight, the signal was knocked out for the duration, forcing pilots to utilize "revisionary" inertial navigation systems for location calculation. The interference also caused parts of the dashboard to malfunction in the cockpit of the aircraft, which is also used by the King. This widespread jamming poses significant operational challenges and safety risks to international aviation and maritime navigation globally.
