The United States and Israel have conducted five months of intensive airstrikes against Iran, decapitating much of Tehran’s senior military leadership while attempting to neutralize its regional influence. Despite these decapitation strikes, Iran’s regional network has demonstrated unexpected operational resilience, sustaining multi-front pressure against American forces and allied infrastructure across the Middle East.
Decentralized command structures and entrenched proxy relationships have allowed Tehran to maintain coordinated military pressure across distant operational theaters. In southern Lebanon, Hezbollah continues to pose a formidable threat to Israeli forces despite sustained aerial bombardment and ground pressure. Simultaneously, Iranian-backed Iraqi militias have launched targeted strikes against Persian Gulf energy infrastructure, while Houthi forces in Yemen have resumed their maritime strike campaign against commercial shipping lanes. These coordinated actions demonstrate that despite severe strategic leadership losses, the Iranian-led coalition retains significant capacity to inflict severe economic and operational costs on Western powers and regional security partners.
