Defense, Intel Leaders: Cybersecurity Priorities are Defense, Deterrence

Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work, Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper, and Navy Adm. Mike Rogers testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee on September 29, 2015, to address escalating digital threats. These senior leaders declared that defense and deterrence are the nation's highest priorities for bolstering cybersecurity capabilities.

This joint appearance before the congressional panel highlighted a unified front between the Department of War and the intelligence community during a period of increasing vulnerability for federal networks. To achieve these strategic goals, the officials emphasized the necessity of integrating the defensive operations of U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency to protect critical infrastructure.
