A C.I.A. officer, David Rush, was arrested last week with over $40 million in gold bars in his home, having previously worked with Stephen A. Feinberg, now the deputy secretary of defense. Rush, a 49-year-old C.I.A. officer for 17 years in the Directorate of Science and Technology, was arrested on May 18.
He had contact with Feinberg on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board during the first Trump administration, though officials state they were not close. Feinberg, founder of Cerberus Capital Management, took interest in C.I.A. technology. Rush is charged with stealing public money by filling out fraudulent time sheets, inflating credentials, and lying about work history. From November to March, Rush requested and received tens of millions in gold bars and foreign currency for "work-related expenses." The C.I.A. could not locate these assets, leading the F.B.I. to find 303 gold bars, each weighing about 2.2 pounds, in his home. The Pentagon and Feinberg had no involvement in Rush's acquisition of the gold.
