Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's presentation of photographs depicting Kyiv's burning Dormition cathedral significantly influenced U.S. President Donald Trump at the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France. This intervention, showing damage from a Russian airstrike on the 11th-century architectural treasure, was the final push in French President Emmanuel Macron's carefully choreographed effort to secure Trump's commitment to increased military support for Ukraine in a joint declaration.

Macron, as host, led G7 leaders in tailoring their messaging to align with Trump's binary view of global power politics, casting Ukraine as a victor and Russia as a desperate aggressor striking civilians and sacred sites. During a Monday dinner, leaders also strategically lavished praise on Trump's deal with Iran. This diplomatic win, built on years of Macron understanding Trump's priorities, was even lauded by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, though its long-term stability remains uncertain given potential future interactions between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
