Iran Says It Targeted U.S. Military in Kuwait With Drones

The Iranian army launched drone attacks targeting U.S. military assets at the Ahmad al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait on July 31, 2026, reigniting fears of a wider regional conflict. Although Kuwaiti forces intercepted the hostile unmanned aerial vehicles with no reported casualties, the strikes mark a significant escalation in direct hostilities.

This kinetic exchange abruptly ended a temporary pause in direct engagements between Washington and Tehran. The operation followed retaliatory strikes by U.S. Central Command against Iranian command centers and missile facilities, which were launched after Iran targeted American forces with ballistic missiles. The geographical scope of the confrontation has rapidly expanded, with drone and missile activity reported in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt's Mediterranean port of Damietta. This widening envelope of instability threatens critical maritime and energy infrastructure, complicating multinational deterrence efforts and raising the risk of miscalculation across the Middle East.
