Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it targeted an American air base in the region following fresh US strikes on southern Iran, escalating hostilities amid a fragile ceasefire. Kuwait, hosting a US base, reported intercepting "hostile missile and drone threats" without confirming the target.
This Iranian action came after the US shot down Iranian drones over the Strait of Hormuz and struck a military site in Bandar Abbas, a strategic port city, marking the second US attack on Iran in three days, conducted in self-defense. US Central Command (Centcom) labeled Iran's attack an "egregious ceasefire violation" after Iranian forces launched five one-way attack drones near the Strait of Hormuz, all intercepted. Centcom described its actions as "measured, purely defensive." Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei condemned US strikes as a ceasefire violation, vowing to defend national sovereignty. The US also sanctioned the "Persian Gulf Strait Authority" for collecting payments from ships in the Strait, warning Oman against imposing a tolling system. President Trump threatened military action against Oman if it did not "behave" and stated Iran was "negotiating on fumes", with a peace deal "not imminent" despite earlier speculation. The conflict has choked traffic in the Strait, impacting global fuel trade. The US had previously confirmed "self-defence" strikes on Iranian missile sites and boats in the Strait.
