Israel's National Cyber Directorate director-general, Yossi Karadi, states that Iran’s state-aligned hackers have become more organized, coordinated, and are increasingly using artificial intelligence for influence operations. Iranian groups now share cyber tools and leverage AI to refine disinformation and recruitment messages, improving upon previously "very bad Hebrew" campaigns.
During the recent war, Iran sent hundreds of thousands of deceptive text messages to Israelis, including false warnings about bomb shelters and intelligence recruitment attempts. Karadi emphasizes that there is "no ceasefire in cyber" and expects activity to persist even with peace agreements. He is actively seeking controlled access to powerful AI models like Anthropic’s Mythos from major labs to help defend Israeli government networks, asserting that governments require the same advanced tools attackers are adopting. Karadi views these AI models as the "main threat" in cybersecurity, leading to a "permanent state of cyber warfare."
