With the announcement that both Hamas and Israel have signed on to the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza, a rare opportunity has emerged to end two years of terrible violence. Under the U.S.-brokered agreement, Hamas has promised to return all the remaining hostages it seized in 2023 in exchange for Israel’s release of nearly 2,000 Palestinian detainees and pledge of a partial withdrawal of its forces from the territory.
