The U.S. Army redesignated the 7th Infantry Division as the 7th Infantry Division (Multi-Domain Command-Pacific) on June 18, 2026, at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. This merger combines the traditional ground force capabilities of the 7th Infantry Division with the new and emerging capabilities of the formerly separate 1st Multi-Domain Task Force, created in 2020, which includes space, electronic warfare, cyber information, sustainment, and protection.

The combined command, comprising about 12,000 soldiers, retains its headquarters at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Gen. Ronald P. Clark, commander of U.S. Army Pacific, emphasized the ceremony's significance in honoring past achievements and affirming readiness for future challenges, particularly in the Pacific. The unit, nicknamed "The Hypersonic Bayonet Division," is responsible for fielding the Army’s Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon — also known as Dark Eagle, which has a reported range of 1,725 miles and travels over five times the speed of sound. This reorganization signals the Army's focus on optimizing its forces for future multi-domain battles in the Pacific theater.
