The Ukrainian Navy claimed the first recorded destruction of an uncrewed surface vessel by another drone boat in the Black Sea. Operated by the Main Intelligence Directorate, a 6.9-meter Sargan 3000 drone boat equipped with a Kongsberg Protector 12.7 mm remote weapon station engaged and sank an unarmed Russian surface drone.

Naval surface warfare is entering an uncrewed counter-drone phase. The Sargan 3000 platform features a low-radar-signature hull, waterjet propulsion, an operational radius up to 1,600 km, and a 450 kg payload capacity. Connected to Ukraine's Delta situational awareness system via secure satellite communications and equipped with optical navigation, the multi-role platform previously sank Russia’s FSB border guard ship Izumrud in July. As USVs proliferate globally following pioneer deployments by Iranian-backed Houthis and recent US operations, arming sea drones transforms uncrewed vessels from single-use kamikaze strike weapons into versatile interceptors capable of securing harbors and executing autonomous maritime picket lines.
