President Donald Trump announced the US would strike Iran "hard" again on Wednesday, following overnight exchanges. US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed launching strikes against "multiple targets" in Iran, citing "unwarranted and continued aggression" after Tuesday's US strikes, which followed an Apache helicopter downing near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) retaliated by striking 21 targets at US bases in Bahrain and Jordan; nearly all projectiles intercepted, with no reported US casualties. Trump urged Iran to "sign a deal" prohibiting nuclear weapons; Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth affirmed further strikes on "key facilities." Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed to "stand firm," its foreign ministry accused the US of damaging diplomacy and violating an April ceasefire. Separately, the US military struck the oil tanker Settebello in the Gulf of Oman for violating a blockade on Iranian ports, imposed after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz in February following US/Israeli attacks. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) approved a US-backed resolution demanding Iran detail its uranium stockpile, a core negotiation point.
