Twelve NATO allies committed to invest $50bn over ten years at the Ankara Summit to accelerate European deep precision strike capabilities and counter Russian regional threats. This UK-led initiative aims to rapidly build, test, and deploy long-range weapons to disrupt adversary infrastructure far beyond frontline combat zones, addressing a critical capability gap across the continent.
The collaborative effort builds on the European Long-Range Strike Approach, which aligns multinational requirements across France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. While the British military will procure the American-made Precision Strike Missile, European defense contractors are developing sovereign alternatives, including the subsonic Stratus cruise missile and MBDA's Land Cruise Missile. Additionally, the United Kingdom is funding rapid prototyping projects like Nightfall and Brakestop to supply Ukraine with low-cost, long-range ground-launched effectors. Ultimately, these joint programs seek to establish a robust family of stealthy, hypersonic deterrents by the 2030s.
