Space Force Wants Commercial Bandwidth for SATCOM Experiments

The United States Space Force is seeking commercial bandwidth to support its satellite communications (SATCOM) experiments as of July 24, 2026. This initiative aims to integrate commercial capabilities with military systems, potentially leveraging platforms like the Boeing-built Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satellite to enhance tactical connectivity for deployed forces.

Historically, military satellite communications relied almost exclusively on dedicated, government-owned constellations that face capacity constraints and vulnerability to electronic warfare. By incorporating commercial bandwidth, the service intends to test and evaluate hybrid architectures that can dynamically distribute data traffic across diverse orbital regimes.
