The strategic competition with China: winning the multi-domain race

The United States must rapidly integrate emerging technologies and expand its industrial capacity to counter China’s comprehensive Military-Civil Fusion strategy and maintain multi-domain military superiority. This strategic competition spans critical warfighting domains, requiring immediate advancements in cyber operations, artificial intelligence, space superiority, layered missile defense, and counter-drone systems to prevent operational surprise.

Historically, military dominance relied on numerical overmatch, but modern warfare increasingly prioritises technological agility and the ability to sustain prolonged combat operations amidst rapid attrition. To secure these capabilities, agencies like the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, United States Cyber Command, and the Golden Dome for America Office are coordinating public-private partnerships, while the Space Force and Missile Defense Agency deploy resilient orbital sensors and advanced interceptors. Ultimately, sustaining credible deterrence against Beijing depends on the nation's capacity to accelerate commercial innovation, secure supply chains, and out-manufacture adversaries during extended conflicts.

Integrating disparate systems like Patriot, THAAD, and Aegis into a single resilient network addresses long-standing interoperability gaps.
