Saudi Arabia increasingly threatened by Houthis' advance - analysis

Saudi Arabian air defense forces intercepted an Iranian-backed Houthi drone targeting Mecca’s airspace at 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday, following a series of regional escalations. The interception occurred five days after Houthi militants captured Red Sea islands guarding the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and routed government-backed troops along Yemen's coast.

These coastal gains enabled the insurgents to establish fortified positions and dig defensive trenches against anticipated counteroffensives. Recent Houthi strikes injured more than 70 people and wounded 13 civilians across Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif. Oil infrastructure suffered severe operational disruptions.
